I saw this topic and felt your pain imeadeatly!! I've had them bad 3 times with minor flareups here and there. You will need to get an anti-viral, I have Acyclovir but there are others. I was fortunate enuff to have the flareups in my side. Now dont misunderstand it felt like a knife on the inside trying to cut its way out!!  .... but a friend of mine had it in his eye!!!!! OMG I cant even imagine that!! Get to a doc asap!! and feel better!!!

Thoght I'd add a few things now that I remember them. Yes it is from the same stain as chicken pox. If you had them you are carrying the virus. What wakes the the thing up is another question. Although it maybe stress related, it seems to affect middle aged the most. But you can get it at anytime, and can hit in just about any spot. On my major flare ups I had what looked like 2 small spots on my side about an inch or so apart. As soon as my doc saw it he knew what it was. At the time he gave me percocet but that was like putting a band aid on a broken bone, yes vicodin seems to work best for the pain .

The pain meds areworking well but are keeping me in bed alot. The skin feels like a bad burn.
Thanks everyone for the meds advise, the doc seems to be on the money with what was prescribed.

I had them on my back. Felt like poison ivy to touch. I didnt know it was the shingles till I went to the doctor. I went in because my back hurt, I thought I threw it out of place. I ask the doctor if she could check the poison ivy on my back, cause it wouldnt go away. She says thats not poison ivy and your back is fine, you have shingles :22yikes:. They are very painful. I think it took like a week and a half to get rid of them. I think I was treated with Amoxocilin if I rememer right. It has been a couple years ago.
