70 Speedo reset
« on: November 18, 2008 - 11:41:22 PM »
Does anyone have pics of their '70 (perhaps 71 also) speedometer -- especially the back side (out of the cluster)     I think I'm missing something in mine related to the re-set shaft) .....       I can't see where the reset set shaft does anything.....

thanks

This probably doesn't help, but...
If you're talking about a rallye dash, the reset isn't on the back; it's on the front on the lower right side of the dial.  There is a shaft that pushes in to reset the trip odometer.
If you're talking about a regular, non-rallye dash, there is no trip odometer and thus no reset.

in 70 the reset has a cable it comes through the face beside the guage & curls into the rear of the guage to reset

Do you twist ?  ....seems like I used to twist, not push in.

You push it in. It might take a couple of tries, but the only twisting is done on the clock reset knob.

Yes - it works with a push ;D     I discovered that somehow mine is missing the part that the push rod hits and then resets the odometer...   :swear:    Finding parts for speedos doesn't seem to be very easy......   The clock cable in this 70 rallye guage cluster is also shot -- wonder what the chances of finding one of those might be (I know they sell repops - but......

Thanks for the help

Thanks FY1Cuda -- I'm trying to find an original cable and I already have the speedo push rod -- the part I'm trying to find for the speedo is the part the rod pushes and it turns he gear to re-set the odometer to zero (they apparently are quite rare as the resto guys use them when they re-build the speedos).     Perhaps someone has a speedo that is in tough shape but this part is still ok... ?

THAT's IT    Thanks FY! RT SE

It's the round piece with the grooves that the rod fits into and it moves the longer "gear" to reset the odometer.

If there's any chance you want to part with it -- let me know.    Otherwise, wonder if there is a way for me to fabricate something that might work in its place...    :clueless:

Thanks again -- Very helpful.

Well, I "made" one this afternoon from a 3/8'' bolt and a spring from a bic pen.   I did go through a couple of drill
bits though  :lol2:  But ... it works great!      :bananasmi   :bananasmi

Thanks again for the pics - really helped.
