Removing a vinyl top and glue
« on: November 25, 2008 - 10:03:47 AM »
What is the best way to remove the vinyl top and the glue.  Plus will it look good if i leave the lower trim on and just paint the top.
Thanks

Most of the time you can just pull the top off, getting the glue off is tougher. I tried a bunch of solvents with no luck so I just set my DA to grind and buffed it off, it plugs the paper up but it worked.

Myself I think a painted top would look cheezy, I'd either replace the vinyl or fill the trim holes and paint it the same as the car.

Painted tops can look good...some came from the factory, ck this thread

New vinyl is not that expensive just a little over $100.... You can install yourself with some patience.... http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/howto/25738_horse_skinning/index.html

Not having removed mine yet I cannot recomend a solvent but I wonder if 3M adhesive remover would do the trick... http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydepot/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=MMM+8908

Removed mine exactly as AMX guy did - using the DA on gind. There no paint as was alos said, so it gets to the metal quickly.
