OE exhaust hanger install and placement???
« on: December 01, 2008 - 10:27:17 PM »
After seeing some pics of the factory exhaust hanger locations, I decided to see where mine went.  My car was originally a single exhaust 318 car, and apparently it had 1 tip hanger (the plate with studs is still there, everything else is gone) and some sort of crossmember hanger that is MIA.  My Summit exhaust was very hard to figure out without any reference points.  My current hangers are "custom" I guess you could say, and I want to reinstall factory style ones for better looks and sturdier mounting.  I'm sure it'd make installation of a nice TTi or Magnaflow setup much easier later on too.   :money:

The hi-po models supposedly had two tip hangers and two resonator hangers that bolted to brackets attached to the rear floor area.  I've found a bolt on style floor hanger bracket for the LH side, but nothing for the right side.  I was wondering if there is any bracket available for the RH side and where exactly both of these were located on the body.  I read on here that the location for the tip hanger plates and muffler heatshields (also gone...) kind of only fit in only one spot of the trunk pan, so that should be easy to figure out for the LH.  Where do the other mounting holes go on the heatshields?  I tried searching but didn't find much.  As usual, thanks in advance for everybody's help! -Dan

Cool, thanks!  Anybody know where the hangers that go on the rear floor pan are located on the body?

I found a two piece bolt through style for the left side which supposedly only works on the LH side.

And a one piece style that can work on both sides

They both look very similar, is there a reason I can't use the first on both sides?  It looks sturdier and easier to install.

Go with Accurate LTD. I installed their complete 440 6 pack exhaust in my 70 cuda and it was the easiest exhaust install I have ever done and the parts were excellent quality and fit.
