best place to get wheel opening molding?
« on: December 27, 2008 - 09:23:07 PM »
I know that people have had trouble with wheel opening moldings and the contours with the way the repros are but I find it to be excessive to be spending $800 for a complete set of NOS moldings for the car.  How are the repros now?  Have they addressed the fit problems?  Who sells the best set of repros?  These will be going on a 70 chally vert.

Thanks,

Brian

I dont know right now.  But I am going to watch this to see what you find out for sure.  I want a set for my car as well.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I bought Challenger repros years ago. It wasn't too bad. I think the trick is to start in the middle and work your way out, rather than going one end to the other. A few screw holes needed enlarged, but it all worked out. I have heard the NOS pieces aren't perfect either, so I think it's crazy to pay $800.   :2cents:

The originals had to be modiied some times also.  You had to put them on the same way also.

For the Challengers, I find they fit pretty well for Repops. You do have to start in the middle and work your way out to each end. Buy the correct screws seperately. The ones that come with the mouldings strip out or heads twist off.

For the Barracudas, Use originals. The Repops are terrible.

I remember someone mentioning that, but I couldn't remember who. I know they were a little peeved about it.

I think there is another post with a bunch of feedback about repop whell well moldings.  Mine look quite nice as long as you don't look at the inside flange.  I had to make about 4 cuts on each inner flange to get them to bend to conform to the opening.  You can't bend an L shaped piece unless you are Hercules.  It was a trial and error type of fitting.  I would still buy them again as they still look very nice.
