Greased Lightening & Ceramic coated headers don't mix...
« on: December 03, 2008 - 12:42:28 PM »
So, I decided to spray down a few areas of my engine that needed to be degreased and accidently oversprayed my beautiful TTI's.

They are non-polished ceramic coated. Is there anyway to get rid of the foggy drip looking areas on them or is this permanent??  :dunno:

Woops.  :misbehaving:

Everything I get on my TTi's has came off after a few heat cycles.  Then I just wipe em down with a damp rag and finish the job....      :2cents:

I found out Castrol Super CLean is not good for anodized parts!!! I found this out b/c of a tranny line blowing off on a ride home soaking my engine bay with fluid. When I got home I figured I would spray it down with Super Clean and hose it off and everything was fine except my gold anodized air cleaner and valve covers were discolored badly.I found out the chemicals in Super Clean are strong enough to eat the anodizing off.I hope this isn`t the case with your headers!I use Mothers mag wheel polish on my Hooker ceramic coated headers to clean and shine them up.

I got the same results once with oven cleaner.   :eek7:   :22yikes:

Yep, aluminum is soft and alot more touchy than stainless or chrome. Sorry I can't recommend anything other the Mother's polish you recommended.

I think oven cleaner and Super Clean might both have lye in them which is waht eats the anodizing.

the best "secret" way i SAFELY clean my engine is to use simple green first, and the i use wd 40 and it all rinses off clean it works i have used this method for 20 years try it the hoses come out like new, all the metal is easy to wipe off with no residue, and yes i have tti headers and they never get stained!
