Jules:    You are apparently "The Man" when it comes to wiper motors and I was wondering if you could answer a curiosity question I have as I look into what I might do with my '70 Challenger.     According to Paul Herd's Restoration Guide, the 3 speed housings were left "unpainted" and that look can be duplicated "by painting the housing stainless steel in a flat finish"   2 Speed motors were a gloss black.    How does this square with the gold cad look that you see nearly everywhere for 3 speed motors?

BTW - Your motors look terrific!

I have two recomendations for you.

1. Discount anything Paul Herd printed, his books are, well..... They do have some nice photos. (trying to be nice is tough sometimes)

2. Listen to Jules.

He is correct about the gear housings been unpainted however I would not paint the housing stainless steel in order to restore it. I bead blast the housings using MIL-13 glass bead then I give them a light 0000 steel wool polish to bring them back to a natural cast look. No paint.
