Proper Steps to Disassemble Rear Springs
« on: December 14, 2008 - 03:46:01 PM »
Please bear with me on this one as i'm probably guilty of overthinking what may really be a simple step or three but what are the proper steps to take when disassembling rear leaf springs?

When disassembled, will the right side leaves be obviously different from the left side leaves so that mixing them up won't be an issue after cleaning?

I have a pic of my car the day it was flat trailered to the shop wearing a 14" wheels (a set of 15" chrome magnums will be on it when done) and am satisfied with the ride height in the back so i've decided to forgo rearching the springs as it just doesn't seem to be sagging enough to warrant the process.

do you have # stamps
 I would stamp each leaf 1-1, 1-2 ,1-3 etc then 2-1 , 2-2
the leafs once apart may have similar length parts on both the left & right side

Use a C clamp when undoing the center nut, then loosen the clamp
