There is a show on HDTV that's called "in search of classic cars" that had a episode on a Buggati that was put away by the owner of a famous department store in NY in the early 60's. (i believe it was Macy's?) Anyway, this guy had purchased the car in the mid fifties and had driven it to the train station and parked it there for his commute to NYC until 1962 when the car developed a problem. He parked it with the intent of getting it fixed, but could never find anyone to work on it. It sat there until i think it was 2007 when the estate sold the car thru Christy's. They filmed it coming out of the garage where it had sat since 62, and it was sold in that condition. The guy who the show is based around was the guy who fished it out of the barn and transported it for Christy's to the auction (he owns a resto shop in New England). He tried to buy it with a customer of his...they thought it would go for around $400K and it's value after freshining up (not restored, it's a survivor type car) would be around $800K. It ended up selling to a bidder on the phone for $780K. He had a light resto done on it, leaving the majority of original paint. They showed it after it was done, said it was appraised at over $1.5 million.

Pretty cool cars, well ahead of their time performance wise.

You have to admit it was a good barn find for sure.   They do look pretty good but would not want one.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

It would be cool if some gearhead with a ton of cash bought it, instead of some blue blood country clubber.
