Quality of G-mark 'cuda Decklid
« on: February 15, 2009 - 01:12:12 PM »
Does anyone have a Goodmark 1970 Cuda decklid? How does it fit? Choice is between a Goodmark and AMD.

Any input is appreciated.

I can't tell you about the 'cuda decklid but I did buy a Goodmark one for my Challenger. My old one had a lot of rust, so I bought a brand new Goodmark one (the AMD ones weren't out at the time) it fits very well and I am quite happy with the way it looks just like the original.

Go-fish,

I myself am looking to replace my trunk lid.  In 2008 while I was at the Mopar Nationals, I found a vendor who had both AMD and Goodmark trunk lids.  I will tell you this, there is a huge difference between the two.  The sheet metal on the Goodmark seemed thinner than the AMD when you pushed on it.  The AMD is a better product than the Goodmark (IMO) not that I am taking anything away from Goodmark.  Also, if you check out the prices you will find that AMD is twice the money and for good reasons.

Also while I was there at the Mopar Nationals, my buddy needed a new hood for his 70 challenger.  After looking at both AMD and Goodmark, he also picked the AMD.  We had on in 30 minutes with no issues and a perfect fit.

I will definitely buy AMD as a matter of fact I am planning on picking one up in March at the Indy Mopar event.
Its obviously your choice but for me I am spending my hard earned cash on AMD products for many reasons....just compare the two side by side and you will see what I am talking about.

Some of the things I heard about actually show up in the pics that are posted. Definitely a few things that throw up some flags in the fit department.

There are some slight fitment issues on mine because 1. it was dropped off the truck (thats why I only paid $60 for it) 2. my challenger was hit really hard on the drivers side and screwed up my drivers quarter and put a kink in my tail light panel 3. my 71 only has 1 trunk torsion bar in it and 4. when I took the pictures I was just checking the fit quickly after I fixed the bends in it from being dropped so it wasn't aligned perfectly. I only like AMD products because they are just better quality IMO, but for that price I couldn't pass it up.

I purchased the goodmark one and it fit good. The underside  needed some work because of some waves in the metal.I was very happy with the fit.Do you have a spoiler, because minor work is needed so the brackets fit right.

the manufacture of the cuda lid is the same company that has been making it for years, Before goodmark started mopar sales, There tooling is getting worn , In my opinion they are good enough if you understand what your getting and will be willing to deal with the issues, each deck lid is different, some are tinny, some are not square, you may have to skim or help the edges when they are over crimped.for the 240.  it is what it is, you cant buy a good used deck for that, If you have or are doing a top notch job and your picky.I would suggest spending the extra dollar and buy the AMD. the old saying you get what you paid for holds up here. I have both in stock, Most of the cuda customers buy the cheaper one but I tell them up front of the issues that may arise,
