1969 Road Runner 383
« on: February 21, 2009 - 02:56:28 PM »
I have the opportunity to buy a 1970 383 complete long block that ran when pulled, It is missing the intake, valve covers, water pump, and front accesories. The guy pulled it out of his 70 Barracuda Gran Coupe recently but it originally came from either a roadrunner or super bee. He is asking $300 for it and I was wondering if this was a good deal and what accessories of of my small block like brackets etc. could switch over if any.

Thanks guys

I would say it is worth it but there is nothing wrong with offering 200 just to see if he will take that. I love 383's, they scream  :ylsuper:

This is what the guy told me about the numbers, If anyone could tell me what they mean that would be great.
E 383 and 23  near the water pump area

6 cast in the front

246816010 on the side (this is approximate because I couldn't be sure because of paint)

12.7.68 also on side of block and again I'm not sure because of paint.

Are all the brackets different for the alternator and such between th SB and the BB? My A/C compressor will switch over right?  :clueless:

Your compressor will work but you will need the big block brackets for the accessories.

Congrats on the score there Chris. :2thumbs: A 383 is a good motor. Should talk to Kurt at Magnum Machine about rebuilding. He could give you some good advice on build options whether you wanted to go stock or maybe a mild buildup with a hotter cam or doing some minor head work. I know you are on a tight budget. Good luck with it. keeps us posted on the build!! :burnout:

Thanks guys, I think my father and I will be talking to Kurt about doing a mild rebuild or a stroker motor.  :burnout: I know the heads are going to be ported and polished. As for the exhaust manifolds, I am going to be using headers so ill have to find some of those as well. I will also be looking for a 4 barrel intake, stock valve covers, and brackets. The guy I bought it from was a really nice guy, he also threw in a Holley carb and the distributor.
