Repro quater and fender patch panels
« on: May 07, 2004 - 08:38:53 AM »
I was wondering what you guys thought about the quality of the lower quarter and fender patch panals for the e body cuda that year one and all those resto places sell.  Do they fit fairly well or are there a lot of hassles making them to fit.  I figure they would be the better route to go than replacing the whole quarters becuase the rest of my quarters even the wheel well lip are unrusted.  Its just the lower 6-8 inches that are rusted.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Matt,
From what I have Heard, the patch panels aren't the greatest and will require a bit of working over to make them fit and look proper. On the other hand, fabbing up panels on your own might take more time, depending on your skill level. If you're like me (have only a little bit of experience in this area), the patch panels are probably worth it. They aren't that expensive to begin with and will probably save you time over other methods.

Is the paint and filler stripped off of the car so that you can see what you are working with? I think that's the other big issue. You don't really know what's going on until all of the surface stuff is stripped away.

Cheers,
Steve

MoparMatt383,
I don't know the quality of the 'Cuda reproduction panels Goodmark produces for YearOne and the other resto. shops, but their Challenger quarters were pretty wavy.  Steve brought up a good point about comparing the repops. to custom fabricated pieces.  When everything boils down, the best route to take is still the reproduction panels, provided you don't have access to donor metal.  Even though they require some work to get them to fit, when everything's done right they look awesome.  Good luck and keep us updated.

I think you're refering to the quarter panel skins which Goodmark does NOT make, but they do sell. They will be coming out with full OEM style quarters, made in house, and should be of outstanding quality.
