Clutch linkage Z-bar bracket welded to frame
« on: January 18, 2009 - 07:29:21 PM »
For OEM installation, where are the welds located??    Are they only on the three edges of the bracket that run lengthwise with the frame rail?   I'm assuming running welds perpendicular to the frame rail is poor idea as its frowned on for heavy truck frames.  Thanks.
Phil

It is actually only welded on in a few places and not all the way across. It has a notch tab on the piece and if yer lucky enough, the slot will be on the frame for it. But if not, You could install the z bar and all the pieces first, then put the bracket on and mark it. Then take the stuff off to weld it. It is hard to weld with the engine, exhaust, brake booster and lines, steering shaft and stuff installed. But I have did it. Sleepy challenger Drew has a cut out of the frame he might could post for you and the location, but it is not straight on the frame. It is in the bend some

The frame has the notch cut in it, the engine and everything is out.    Based on your info, I"ll weld in 3 places, each bead about 3/4-1 inch long, with all beads running lengthwise with the frame rail.  The two edges of the bracket that run perpendicular won't have welds.  I"ll do some searches on this site, see if I stumble across a photo.  Thanks.
