I re-voted for the 2nd to the last one as to me there are plenty of factory turbo cars that are most certainly street legal and unmodified, as with race fuel, as I don't think in my state there are any restrictions on running high octane gas, but I can't afford it. That's my reason for voting the last entry. If it's inspection legal, then in my opinion, it can be a "street" car. Even if it cost you 8 bucks a gallon to drive!!! :smilielol: :smilielol:

Guess I should put it this way: If you drive a car in NJ and the State Police happen to pull you over and you have to open your door to talk to them because your window doesn't go down and then he notices you have no wipers or lights, your trip is over and will be completed in the back of his car. I don't care WHAT kind of licence plates you have.

"Street" for me is the car's ability to pass inspection and be driven daily...on whatever gas is available. Any modification is allowed as long as it doesn't break the law.

You must be talking about antiques cars...because they have strict laws on what is allowed on modern cars. My car can not be licensed in California!  :swear:

There are smog checks in California for newer vehicles, and yes part of that includes a visual inspection of the engine, but you can take the vehicle to a referee to get it signed off. I know a guy who has an SRT 4 that is throwing down over 400 whp with a stage 3 turbo get and some other goodies and he passes emissions just fine because when he has it tested he dials the boost controller down to zero psi.

If you're trying to say you can get stopped driving in Calif with an obviously unsafe vehicle with non-dot approved tires and non of the obvious safety devices like wipers and lights and they will not ticket you, I think you're kidding yourself. Not having to go through inspection doesn't absolve you of driving a safe vehicle.

I'd rather have MV inspection because as long as you have a valid inspection sticker they can't say crap about your car  :grinno:

pretty much anything goes in michigan, theres enough gas stations with 110 around and technically your suposed to pump it into a can but no ones ever gets harassed about it, its more for the fact you dont pay road tax on it i think. the cops dont bother classic cars unless your being real stupid.

MIckey Tompson has DOT slicks so that problem is taken care of, I see no advantage to not having headlights, so that's not an issue. As far as wipers go I see a lot of cars especially hot rods that don't have them so I don't see that as an issue. I'm not talking about driving an unsafe vehicle, but there are things that are on typical production cars that you don't need (ie wipers).

I'll never understand why people always split hairs over stuff that's a no-brainer for a street car. I guess you don't need movable windows,  you'll just look like an idiot at the toll booth or the fast food place reaching around the window. You don't really need wipers, but you have to be able to see the road when it rains or after a bird craps all over it. You don't really need a heater but you'll freeze your nuts off when it's cold and you have no means to de-fog the windshield. You don't really need lights, but sometimes it's dark at night. :dunno:  I think the simplest definition of a real "street car" is one that you can drive safely at any time of the day or year if you have to that doesn't have blinking Neon signs that make every cop you see pull you over like a super loud exhaust or a giant view obstructing hood scoop. All the "street cars" I've ever owned I could drive to the track and back home at night, even in the rain and cold.  :2thumbs:
