Replaceing turn signal cam
« on: January 31, 2009 - 03:06:30 PM »
Hello,
I got a new trun signal cam off the net today and I wanted to install this weekend. I wondered if there where any tips to getting the installed into a 73 challenger. I have not taken anything apart yet so I need to check the book on how to do it. I just wanted to ask before hand to know what I am getting myself into.  Any instruction would be great. THANKS!!  :thinkerg:

look for a thread about disassembling steering colum and replacing ignition. basically:
- unscrew SW
- unscrew big washer on the shaft
- pull out the crush can (puller recommended)
- unscrew little screw holding turn signal lever
- unscrew 3 screw and pll out a small plate in the center
- replace the switch, or put it out and replace the cam only
- assembly in reverse order.

silly question but why does the cam have 2 wires coming off of it? It is not a switch.

actually the cam is part of the switch , the two wires need to be soldered onto the existing wires & use heat shrink to cover the joint , the cam simply prys off the metal hub the turn signal lever bolts onto once you get into the switch itself
