I agree with everyone here.  My car got parked right around the time of my first kid. Money was tight and things kinda happened. My car set in the garage for 21 years---but at least I still got it. And now that I have found a renewed interest in working on it again, it is fun once more.  So don't worry if you have to park it for awhile----at least you own an E-body.

I always called mine my 10 year project. Well, in 9 years not much had happened, I spent those years doing what you are doing, buying tools, a welder, learning how to weld (even fixed a blender with it). Many other daily drivers later, a 9 year old kid and I am just now getting back on it (www.dcubetechnologies.com/cuda), but even then only a little here and there. I traded all that time for the enjoyment of my family and have not regretted a single minute. That 'Cuda has been from Oklahoma, to Texas to Maryland and back to Texas with me. My friends get a good laugh over it but it is all worth it. I know have a garage of tools, great compressor, welder and parts. I have made contacts along the way and working on it as I can. Life's been good and it keeps getting better, and my 'Cuda is still not done.

Just don't sell it, I came close and my brother (fellow mopar nut as well) talked me off the ledge, so glad he did. :)

Hang in there and just do what you can or buy what you can. Some months I could only spend 20 bucks on a tool, but man how the collection grows over time.

Added bonus, I spent the time with the family and now the family is spending time with me on the 'Cuda! Wife does great work, never would have thought!

You can barely see the graphics my kid painted on the side of the car with water paint. She had a blast and the paint is coming off anyway so why not. Her friends were like  :wow: your dad lets you do THAT? (good times, good time indeed)

These are all great stories and very true.  I was driving my Challenger daily until I realized that I'd need to put in some serious money to get it really road worthy for my commute.  That and the lack of mileage with a long commute made me decide to get something more economical and park the car.  That was in 1995.  96 came number one son.  In 98, I finally pulled the car out to take it apart for paint.  Various other issues came up along the way and the body came back in all its purple glory in November 08.

The long wait wasn't too much of a problem since I was spending more time with my family and number two son.  Now I'm starting to get to work with parts etc and my sons can now help me with the task at hand.  It's going to be a lot of fun and the reward will be great for all of us.

One thing I would recommend if possible.  I have been doing extra side jobs, selling things on ebay etc to make a little extra money that is OUTSIDE of our normal family budget.  This is my special car fund for tools/parts etc.  It makes it clear so you aren't taking anything away from the family.  Just a thought.  It's worked well for me and keeps me motivated.

Good luck, It'll get there.  I am very glad I HAVE my Challenger because I couldn't afford to GET one if I didn't.  Keep that in mind if you ever entertain the idea of selling it.

This may sound strange,

As a stay at home Dad, I find if I can get my Daughter to Grandma once a week I have the urgency needed to work on my car (for now my Chevy to make room for the Cuda). I've blasted through a lot of things that have been sitting collecting dust for the last 4 years and it feels great. It is a nice break to spend a few hours alone, doing something you love.

Of course, as soon as they come out with toddler welding helmets she is out there with me!

lemming303 - I am in the same basic area as you.  I live in Keller and have a shop near the Alliance Airfield.  If you need a hand or some advice feel free to call or come by, whenever I am at my shop.  I've taken apart and put back together dozens of old Mopars and am more than willing to help out a fellow Mopar Nut.  I know what is like to be overwhelmed - I have a wife & three kids and we moved half way across the country a 2-1/2 years ago to this area where we have no family.  Mopars help keep me (reasonably) sane.

Also, don't know if you've heard of it or not but the Cowtown Mopar club has a great bunch of guys and gals in it.  We meet at 5 pm every third Sunday at Billy Bob's in the Stockyards.  The next meeting is Feb 15th and they are actually getting together early to watch the NASCAR race.  Not my thing but you're more than welcome to join the watch party.

I was thinking about joining a Mopar club in the area. Is there any fee to join? Also, I'm not really into nascar (look! another left turn!) they take up too much time on the Speed channel. But anyway, I may show up to one of those meets. I'd like to join one, most people I know don't care about Mopars. Personally, I love all old Muscle cars, from Chevy to Mopar to Ford to Buick. They all need lovin...

Dues are $15.00 a year so it's not too bad. You can attend a couple of meetings and then decide if you want to join.  I agree about "Stock Car Racing."  It's kinda like watching paint dry to me   and frankly I'd rather watch paint dry on one of my cars anyday   Next meeting is the 15th and I think you'll enjoy it.  Likke I said, feel free to call me anytime to talk Mopars.  I will be at my shop almost all day tomorrow if you feel like swinging by  :working:
