19" vs 22" Radiator Fan Shrouds
« on: February 13, 2009 - 10:13:25 AM »
I found a guy who has a shroud off a '70 Challenger small block for sale but we don't know if it's a 19" or a 22".  I don't have a 22" one to compare it to  and it's 200 miles away so I'm trying to determine if it's the 22" one I need. it measures right at 22"  I'm not sure that means anything, were 19" and 22" the same shroud even though the radiator core was smaller? or is there a way to determine what it is?

Challenger's only had 22" and 26" radiators. Mine's a 26", so I can't help you.   :sadwavey:

Are you sure? the moparts radiator chart shows non A/C  E bodies with 318 and 340 engines having 19"

I've never seen a 19" in an E-Body.

Interesting, I measured a 19" and my 22" and both are 24 1/2" to where the shroud bolts on. so the width of the shroud is the same, question is would the fan hole be the same? I have both radiators but no shroud so I can't say.

If no 19" radiators were used that sums it up, but the moparts radiator numbers thing says the 1970 6 cylinder E body used a 22"  and the 1970 non A/C 318 and 340 used a 19". this makes no sense so maybe that's a screw up.

The so called books aren't always right. So that would explain this. I understand your frustration.   :grinyes:

that is confusing, it is hard to imagine that a 6cyl would have a biggerfan / shroud than a v8.

if it is cheap enough I would buy it, you should be able to sell it rather easy if it is wrong

what is the part number on your radiator? I can go check against mine and see if they are the same.

2998954, but I think there are about 100 different 22" radiator numbers.

I just checked mine and it is a different number, I bought a 22" shroud from mancinis last year. I measured my radiator and it is just shy of 22"" the shroud is actually larger as it connects to the rad suport.  If you are measuring your radiator at 24 1/2" it's gotta be a 26" radiator I would think.

My bone stock, mostly unmolested 73 Challenger with a 318 and no A/C had the original 19" rad. in it when I got it. Shroud was not present and I have since replaced it with a 22" aftermarket rad.

All three shrouds are different. They will measure approx. the same width as the core itself. Ask the seller to measure his for you.
