AMD or GoodMark 'Cuda 1/4 panels ???
« on: February 17, 2009 - 09:35:56 AM »
Alright guys, with these parts being out for a while now I want your opinions... I might need a full driver 1/4 for my '74 Cuda and want to know which to get. I've read a lot of posts and heard how the G.M. (no pun intended) 1/4 is too short between the door and wheel opening and needs sectioned, not enough material @ wheel lip & 1/4 window area. Also heard that the G.M. piece doesn't have as nice a body line.  How about the AMD piece ???

Also, are the regular 3/4 height skins any good ? who makes the best, or only one supplier ?  pass side only needs a skin and I MIGHT be able to use one on the driver side, so to save $$$ I could go that route if they are decent.

If you look through this section or do a search you'll find that there is already at least one other post where this has been discussed.

I've spen the last 2 1/2 days on this site and Moparts reading old topics. the problem is they are all old from when the parts were first introduced and now many more have encountered the specific issues with both.
I just had a nice conversation w/Dave @ Roseville regarding this. His opinion is G.M. on the 1/4's based on the 2 cars they have done in house. He also recommends staying away from the 3/4 skins.

AMD by far hands down are better quality and fit, thicker metal, more crisp lines ,if you have just a driver, not a high dollar car,you can save few bucks, but in the end you'd still have to spend time to install either parts, so there will be some minor body work,it's just the Goodmark sheetmetal is thinner, some of the vendors who carry Goodmark will lie and say that they come from same source just different packaging, they are full of BS,

I'm totally happy with my AMD quarter.
No issues at all.

Todd, here is a copy of a post I made over the weekend regarding Gmark vs. AMD.

I myself am looking to replace my trunk lid.  In 2008 while I was at the Mopar Nationals, I found a vendor who had both AMD and Goodmark trunk lids.  I will tell you this, there is a huge difference between the two.  The sheet metal on the Goodmark seemed thinner than the AMD when you pushed on it.  The AMD is a better product than the Goodmark (IMO) not that I am taking anything away from Goodmark.  Also, if you check out the prices you will find that AMD is twice the money and for good reasons.

Also while I was there at the Mopar Nationals, my buddy needed a new hood for his 70 challenger.  After looking at both AMD and Goodmark, he also picked the AMD.  We had on in 30 minutes with no issues and a perfect fit.

I will definitely buy AMD as a matter of fact I am planning on picking one up in March at the Indy Mopar event.
Its obviously your choice but for me I am spending my hard earned cash on AMD products for many reasons....just compare the two side by side and you will see what I am talking about.

Here is some info I kept from a prior post.  It compares a Goodmark Cuda to a NOS Cuda quarter panel.  Not sure if AMD has this problem or not.
