« on: February 14, 2009 - 01:13:58 AM »
Just wanted to share the last Car I restored which was a 1970  Dodge Challenger with a 340 automatic.  I did everything to it.  Just wish I had all of the pics from the restoration.  Gordon

It was triple black and when the pic was taken it had been done for 5 or 6 years.  It was suppose to have a white strip on the back of it also but I did not put it back and I think it was suppose to have a lugage carrier on the back also.  I had one but it needed to be rechromed and did not want it on there.  I changed it to be an R/T also.  I did all of the work to it including the top and engine and trans.  It looked as bad as my cuda does now also before I started on it.  Gordon

Nope I traded it off several years ago.  When I got rid of it looked even better than the pic.  I regret getting rid of it in some ways.  Gordon

The front end was wrecked and I used all of the original parts.  The rear quarter on this side was knocked in over 6" and I did not replace it.  It took me about a year to get it done.  Thanks I know how hard it is to do black.  Just wish I had all of the pic's so I could show them.  Had some high school students that stole them.  I may have one of it when it was striped.  Just wish I had all of the cars I have done with pic's.  Been doing body work since 1969.  Learned from a master and I have improved on what he taught me.  I can hardly wait to get started on my M46.  Gordon

Hey Don,

The wheels on that car are why my kids want me to put them on mine. Was looking at some 17" wheels that look almost like those.  If I get to work longer over here may get a set for it also besides the 15" Rallye wheels I bought for it.  Thanks it even looked better than that when I got rid of it.  Gordon

Hey bro to each their own.  Some types of wheels look better on different cars.  I perfer the 500's on Challengers and not cudas.  Most of the time steelies dont do it for me on cudas but some time it does depending on the application.  But I love steelies on Challenger T/A's  Like I said to each their own.  As far as the larger rims, I think that if you go that route you need to get a very deep rim for rear or else you look like your riding on pizza cutters.  That is just my .02.

Its your car bro do what you want with it.  Im nobody to sway what you want on your car.  That is why its your bro.   :2cents:

You know what was the real kicker on that car as for as the paint I used.  I got the cheapest paint I could get at the time to put on it.  It was all in the preperation for the paint.  You dont know how many told me that I could paint anything for them after they saw the car.  I have a good friend back where I grew up it was so good to see his eyes light up when I drove up into his drive and his jaw almost dropped to the ground.  He was so impressed with the car.  I even put the vinyal top on it.  I did the interior and everything on it myself.  It was fun I bought the car to fix up and sell it.  I did sell it to a friend of mine and had to buy it back after he let it just sit.  I got a pretty good price out of it when I sold it but would have got more a few years later I think.  It was full of options also.  It was a low mileage car also.  Gordon

I think I have a pic of the challenger with it striped,  If I do I will try to post it when I get home.  Thanks for all of the complements.  Not bragging but I think I have a skill or two that I have not shown on here yet.  Hope to with the M46 restoration.  Gordon
