« on: February 20, 2009 - 01:32:01 PM »
Here are some pics of my 73 Cuda, orginally 340 auto. boght it w/ 383.
It should have had discs, vbut the spindles sure don't look like they have been messed with in a long time. Car was not a racer???
I want to convert back to dicsc. I want to replace the booster. What do you guys use? It a replacement avail?
I don't want to spend a lot for a remanfacture of mine.

I'm not sure if it's leaking. The brakes are a mess. It looks like I will need to convert back to discs and while I'm at it I will clean and restore the underside, rebuild the front end, restore the rear end and rear brakes. Have any of you used the disc conversion with a 9" Zinc plated Midland-Ross booster?
The system lbooster ooks close to the factory one.
I converted my 64B body to discs with a kit from "The Right Stuff" it was easy and worked great.

Here's a pic if what I'm looking at for my Cuda.

I don't know what that kit costs, but I can guess. IF I was going to go with a factory type kit (I went with the under $500 lite weight Wilwood kit that uses the drum spindles) I would start with getting everything I could from Rock Auto. Can't beat their prices. They probably have everything but the spindles.

If the master cylinder is a disk type it won't work right AT ALL with the drums in the front. Not to mention the proportioning will likely be wrong if your car originally had disks, which it appears it did from the fender tag.

Buy a set of disk spindles off of e-bay, they usually sell around 100-150 bucks. But try to make sure you get the later ('73 on) spindles so you can buy the later rotors, as they are much more common than the earlier 70-72 2 piece design rotor, and much less expensive. Any spindle off of a '73-'76 A body will work, or a '73-'74 e body. '73 and up B, F, and R body spindles will also work, although they're slightly taller, you'd never notice on a street driver.

I'd find a set of '73 up spindles, get a couple of 11.75 caliper brackets and convert the whole thing to 11.75" front disks. The spindles and caliper brackets can be had on eBay, the rest you can get from Rock Auto, or Summit, or your local parts shop. I'd bet even buying everything else new you could come in under 500 bucks if you did it right...
