Air shock PSI
« on: February 16, 2009 - 07:56:58 PM »
what psi are you guys typically running your air shocks at. I pumped mine up to about 65psi and still only lifted the rear about 2" which leveled the body out but I'd still like to get alittle more lift out of it. These are new shocks out of the box.

I've got air shocks on my Challenger and have a slight rake to the profile. I run mine at about 75 psi. I know there are a lot of drawbacks to handling with air shocks, but for now it does just fine!!

I found that air-shocks rode harsh no matter how much or little air I put in them. I did run them at about 60PSI, but the best solution is to get new leaf springs with an additional arch from Espo. You can then go back to real shocks.

My springs were shot as yours sound they are, I ended up going to the max PSI when I had them - somewhere around 80 PSI I believe.

Hey MEK, hope you don't mind me asking a question I'm sure you've answered a hundred times already. But what is faster, your '70' or '09'?

The '09 is the 6-cylinder version, so it's twice the gas mileage of my 70. The '09 does quite well to be honest as far as power, but my beefed up 440 in my '70 would blow it away.   :burnout:

In the seventies I had a few friends that used the air shocks in the rear exclusively.  The problem is if you have them under max preasure they they can can tear out the brackets attached to the trunk.  Just so you know that is a risk when you leaf strings are not doing most of the work in your supension.  Of course keep in mind this was a period when more challengers took out telephone poles than any other time in history.  :dunno:

A friend of mine in high school was running so much pressure in the shocks on his V8 Vega the coil springs fell out one night.  He didn't realize it until later and just ran it that way.
