Junk in your trunk
« on: February 21, 2009 - 06:51:57 AM »
Anyone have a good way to secure stuff in your trunk? it basically feels like the small space we have is basically useless, I think most of us have seen cars with the effects of having stuff slide around..... ever seen outward dimples in quarter panels?  :faint:

hasnt happened to me, sheesh, you guys would really think I was accident prone.  :D So, I tried wire tying a plastic basket to that vent stack thingy for a while but that eventually exploded.

What do you guys do?  :bigshades:

I have sooo much junk in my trunk there is no room for it to move.  Spare tire, bag of cleaning supplies, bag of tools, bag of spare parts, socket set, two chairs, air compressor, cooler bag, belts, hoses, oil, brake and power steering fluid.  :grinyes: I keep everything in these Challenger duffle bags

Cudaguy and Sleepychallenger both keep their trunks maxed out to the limit.  I was amazed at how much stuff they could carry in an E body trunk.

I made an outie dent in the Dart carrying replacement torsion bars for the Challenger in its trunk.  After that I took some high density packing foam sheets (about 3/4" thick and very dense) and stuck them inside the trunk, sliding them down the gap on each side.

I also had a rubber trunk mat in the Dart.  I used the double-sided rubbery tape they make for holding carpet runners in place on tile floors on the bottom of it; that did a good job of preventing it from shifting.  Then I took a couple of milk crates (real ones, not the cheap toy replicas they sell at wally world for storage) with rubber tape on the bottoms.  They tended to stay in place except under the most severe braking or turning, with a little weight in them.
