Oil pan measurements for a BB
« on: March 01, 2009 - 12:34:57 PM »
Can anyone give the height measurement on a standard(I'm assuming 402 pan) from the bottom of the pan to the top of the pan lip exactly above were the centerlink crosses under the pan.  I'm concerned I might have a wrong oil pan on the engine.  The pan and centerlink almost touch, maybe a 1/8 maximum before they touch.  I'm concerned that when the engine torques or moves it pushes the centerlink down.  It came with the car and is one of those "cool looking chrome pans"  :roflsmiley: I'm currently in the process of putting new aftermarket motor mounts on it and I also put a tranny mount in last year.  I'm working on a 440 in a 73 cuda.

Chrome is the Shiites for sealing and I used a stock, new Hemi 6 qt pan and 3/8" pickup tube. Also run a windage tray and no leaks so far.

Thanks Stocker. I know there a piece of crap, but I'm not ready to go buy a new oil pan if I don't have to yet.
I'm still loooking for a measurement  from the top of the pan lip to the bottom of the pan where the centerlink crosses. Does anyone have one in the shop they can look at and take a mesurement?

Thanks

Measuring between the bolts on the pan rail the pan is approx 1.5" deep
the center link is 2.375" below from the same point

CP Thanks,  So I've attached three pictures showing you what I think might be one of my many problems.  The first picture is what the oil pan and the centerlink looked like before I pulled them off the car. They were actually touching. The second and third picture is the measurement from the top of the pan to the bottom of the pan where the centerlink would cross under the pan (blue tape shows where the centerlink crosses).

My concern is that the 73 cuda came with the wrong oil pan. Someone else put the 440 in it. Do you think it is the wrong oil pan for the cuda?  If so, what type of pan should I buy assuming that I will be using the pan for a 512 stocker some day (sooner rather than later) for mainly street racing. :woo:

Thanks for your time.

Any suggestions on what pan I should buy if I want to use it now and on a 440/512 stroker some day? I don't want to raise the height of the front end of the car due to clearence issues. 440 source or Milodon 7qt low profile???? thanks

I would use the hemi 402 pan , Mancinis had a deal on them , unless you are racing this car it will be fine even on a 512"
