I have this posted over at Garage Journal and am getting some good help, but thought I'd post it here too. I know you guys can offer some more tips and this thread might help the next guy who decides to test a MOPE MILL on a test stand....
So I wired it all up - like you would "ANY" engine...and of course found out the almight MOPE is not "any" engine!!!
So here's where I am: I got everything hooked up, added gas, cranked it over.....wouldn't ya know it - NO SPARK.....that's why I've been to the various sites looking around for info. Seems so basic..... NO SPARK - even from coil to distributor...I've got 12V to dist and coil, so I'll have to get a new coil and try it....engine ran when I removed it of course, so I thought all would be OK....
Here's a photo of the wiring I rigged up - maybe you see something I don't. (Red Pertronix to (+) Coil, Black Pertronix to (-) coil, 12V to coil(yellow coming from coil off camera).....SO NOW, A knowledgealbe member at GJ told me I don't have a Pertronix, but a stock MOPAR reluctor/pickup set-up. Being a MOAPR Newbie, I thought: no points? Must be Pertronix....but no-o-o-o...So now I find out you need the spark box also wired into the set up to get spark....
Here's the question: is there an easy way to do this on a test stand?? I already have it all restored and installed back on the firewall. I could remove it, but I think I need the Ballast Resistor" too right?
