Help finding correct V-Belt
« on: March 03, 2009 - 08:24:08 AM »
I just bought a 70 Cuda w/ a 440.  It has manual steering and originally had A/C but doesn't now.  My problem is this....with no P/S pump or A/C compressor, the fan belt goes over nothing but the pulley on the water pump and the crank, hence no belt tension adjustment capability.   The belt thats on now is way too loose and I have experimented with numerous different belts of varying length and width combinations and cannot find a belt that is not either too loose or too tight.  Anyone else had this problem?  I know I could go with a different pulley size or install an idler pulley but looking for help for the simple fix of just finding a proper length belt.......anyone???

IF this belt went around the alternator, sure.

you need to locate the correct pulley & brackets to run without  the AC  first

Thanks guys.  I understand all that, but as stated in my original post, was looking for taking the easy route and just finding a belt that worked.  Thought somebody else may have went through the same scenario and found a belt that works.

All belts stretch that is why they have adjustment. Get the correct brackets/pulleys and use the alternator for what it was designed for.   :2thumbs:
