Billboards - how to care for them
« on: July 14, 2009 - 12:22:43 PM »
Just got my new cuda clone. Sitting in my garage, after hosing off some grime last night. Should I wax the billboards?
What do you do to keep them looking sharp?
Thanks.

i used wax on a blackedout challenger hood years ago,and screwed it all up.i would think that quik detailer would do the job,or maybe the waxes of today would work better than the stuff iused years ago(cant remember what kind it was though)sure thing is,someone here will know what to use.sounds like a cool car,now please post some pictures  :2thumbs:

DO NOT GET WAX ON IT!  The decal is vinyl, and vinyl and wax do not go well together.  Your best bet is just wash it with soap and water while you wash the car, and then dry it.  As far as the quick detailer stuff, I don't have any idea if that will work or not, but personally I would not use it, either.

You might want to give Meguiars a call as they provide free help to car lovers.  I have also found out that on satin or flat black vinyl decals (and also black plastic trim pieces) wax should not be applied as it turns it a chalky white.  However, if your vinyl is any color other than satin or flat black, you can wax it.  Again, AS LONG AS IT IS NOT FLAT or SATIN BLACK!!!!

Maybe the vinyl ages, or the "newer" material is not the same as original.  My 340 duster had black stripes and "340" logo on the rear quarters.  I was the original owner.  I waxed the decals every time I waxed the car...had no problems ever.  I always tried to keep the car clean, so were talking many wax jobs during 130,000 miles of use.

I was thinking more in line with the vinyl trim pieces, and that the vinyl decals would react the same, but maybe not  :dunno: ?

I use the spray detailer on my stripes with no apparent problems.
