Is this a good combo?
« on: March 09, 2009 - 06:54:37 PM »
I have to replace my K-member so while I'm at it I thought I would change the torsion bars to 1" and the  XHD Mopar rear springs as I'm changing the rear end too? Might as well get poly bushings all around too? My car is a 440/727 Challenger. I looked at XV level 1 kit but can't see parting with that much money.  I have to buy headers rear end, driveshaft, brakes, shocks , tires so it adds up quick!

I've used that combo in one of my B bodies with great results. I also had a 1.125 front sway bar to go along with it. Many on here are critical of the XHD spring packs and the resulting ride height from using them. Personally, I have never had any issue with them.

The thing about the XV kit is if you buy comparable shocks, you'll be close to their price range anyway. Now there are decent shock out there for less than what they charge, and you certainly can put together a system for less coin than what they want if you shop around.

I would caution you on the poly bushings.  I read all the people saying they sqeak, not to do it.  Well I thought it can't be that bad.  I went ahead and used poly in the rear, and that was a mistake.

The squeaking is HORRIBLE!  Luckily I used rubber in the front, no problems.

Thanks for your input ! I always value your comments! Now that I think of it I need shocks too as mine has air shocks in the rear YUCK! What do you recommend? What are my options for rear springs if people don't like the Mopar stuff?
Thanks Brad

Generally the poly will not squeak if you coat it with the special lube about the consistancy of honey
ESPO spring has a good alternative

The poly you use may also factor in to that as well. I've always uesed PST poly-graphite, lubed them up on install, and not had any major noise issues. I've never tried Energy Suspension or any other brands out there. I've also had rubber bushings that have squeaked as well, so rubber isn't a guarantee to be free from noise.

Shock wise you about at the limits of what regular gas charged shocsk will do well with. If all you do is cruise and the budget is tight, Gabriel or Monroe gas shocks will work, but drive it too hard and they'll fade fast. Ebrock may be a better choice for foxed valving, or QA1 if you want to have an adjustable.

Espo does get a lot of good reviews here and other places I visit.

http://www.espo.com/

I went with a 2" over stock height spring. Others have done well with 1" over. This is a nice way to lift the rear without using air-shocks.
