70 Road Runner vs. 90's Cougar vs. M.P.'s
« on: January 17, 2002 - 01:37:50 PM »
The summer of 98 just passed my one-year anniversary in the Marines, I got my first Mopar! 1970 Road Runner 383HP and the engine had been built for a bracket racer but ended up in this RR.  I bought the car for like $2000 it was a beater, well to make a long story short I drove the car to work one day.  On the way home I was coming from the industrial area and merged on the to the main drag leading off the base its about 2 mi from that point to the main gate. (Any one who has been on Camp Lejeune knows what I’m talking about.) As I merged I was in front of all the traffic in my lane and then there was this late model Cougar one of those 5.0 types! He was in front of all the traffic in his lane.  So he starts revving and hopping his front end so I looked at him and I nodded!  Then he gunned it and then I gunned it and we were off (we started at like a 45mi roll) he pulled a head about a car length and a half (I’m being generous) and then It was like ever thing fell into place my four barrel kicked in and I was gone I was ahead by about a car and a half when we came screaming by the Military Police!!!  We had to be doing like 100 mph and I was praying that the light up ahead was going to stay green by this time I’m about 4 cars ahead and still going!!!  And I could feel that the light (which I can see) is about to go red!!!  Well it went to yellow and I made it thru. The Cougar didn’t!!!  I then slowed down into the traffic ahead and seen the blue lights pull behind him and I cruised to my base house in Midway Park I also pulled my car into my back yard for a couple of days!!!  LOL!!!  About a year later I was deployed to Kosovo and me and my wife found out she was having our baby, well she sold the Road Runner for $1500 so she could buy furniture for the babies room!!!

It is to bad, I was looking for an Air Grabber hood and a Go-Wing for it.  Found the hood but the guy decided not to sell (what a jerk!)  Now my big plans are to get a 1971 Cuda rag top and restore it, paint it Bahama Yellow, Black int. 440-6, 6sp trans, Dana rear, Shaker, Go-Wing, Ralley Wheels and me sitting in the drives seat!  Then I want to do a 71-72 Duster 440 to terrorize the local mustange and rice burners!!!

I think there cool they are what I call pavement pounders!!!
