Quapman.....you rock!!! :ylsuper:

I was looking at the rear window of my fish the other day and noticed that when the prior owner put the rear window in , he lefta big gap between the trim and the glass.....

That urethane caulk sounds like the ticket.....where can I find it?

I saw some at NAPA last week. I'm thinking most auto parts or body supply shops should carry it.

Dumb newbie question:  Is there SUPPOSED to be a seal between the window trim and the window?

I have a water leak into the trunk at the left side and think its coming from water getting under the molding....

Where does the water normally travel?   I cansqueeze water outfrom under the vinyl top at the bottom and I know that cant be right.....

Also, found the urethane at the local parts store but it appears to need a special type of caulk gun according to the clerk.......... :clueless: :dunno: :1zhelp:

There was nothing to fill the gap from the factory and water likes to pool up in the bottom, especially the corners. The urethane is recommended to stop this.

Special caulk gun? I used a hardware store gun when I applied the seam-sealer. Your guy might be BS-ing you.

The caulk tube "looked" like it could be smaller than a standard tube, I dont know...it had a "pop top" end cap....sound right?

Do you just caulk the trim then? Or do you need to pull the trim and urethane under it?

Seems like caulking the trim would work to stop water from getting in there to begin with, though I have to wonder how its getting into the trunk.

ANyone have pics of a urethane'd window trim?

If I were to do this (and I still might), I'd remove the trim and caulk along the bottom and up the sides an inch or two. I suppose filling all the way up the sides wouldn't hurt.

Water in the trunk is probably coming from the scew holes for the glass jacks or a trim clip.

Quapman gave an excellent rundown but I also use an etching compound on the frame and the glass after cleaning it. Makes the butyl stick better on both sides. It is a small bottle with an applicator brush made by most of the sealant companies and available at most auto stires. In Canada was $12 for enough to do both windshield and rear window.

This may seem obvious, but how's your trunk seal?

The trunk seal is brandy new.

My son climbed into the trunk while we sprayed water on the areas....definately coming from that lower corner somehow....it runs down and then pools on the floor in the trunk....

Just as an update -- Pulled the trim and found asmall hole in the seam where the dutchman panel meets the quarter panel.....I caulked using clear flowable silicone to fill that and then caulk across the bottom and about halfway up the sides of the window.....also did around the rivets that hold the clips on....hopefully that will do it.....fingers are crossed....

Did the same thing at the front of the car.....
