Dumb question
« on: March 10, 2009 - 12:47:47 PM »
The clutch pedal on my car seems to have alot of travel before it engages, almost to the top. and also the car grinds when you put it into reverse.  I have talked to a couple of people and they believe the clutch is out of adjustment.  The clutch is supposed to be new, but I cannot verify that, and would like to make sure it is adjusted correctly.  How do I adjust the clutch.  I have never done it before, but everyone says it is supposed to be easy, but I do need an idiots guide.  Any help would be appreciated.

Dumb answer LOL
there is a link between the Z bar & the release fork into the belhousing , it is threaded & has a 9/16 wrench size 3/8" nut on it , lenghten the rod until the play is almost all gone , you should have approx 1" of free pedal travel at the top

Thank you Chryco.  If that doesn't get rid of the grind when putting it into reverse, I will be back on here

Chryco,

I am probably not understanding you.  Just to verify, the clutch pedal should only go down 1 inch before it starts to engage the clutch?  Why so high, up?  Seems like if I only have 1 inch of travel, I will continually have to adjust it.  Why would it not have to go say 1/2 the way down before in engaging.  I am confused.....

well the problem you are having with reverse grinding is because you do not have enough travel to fully release the clutch so you need to limit the the free play to 1" maximun to ensure enough travel to fully release the clutch

if I look at the threaded rod from the side of the car, the adjustment nut looks to me like it is as far twoard the rear of the car as it will go.  the only way I can adjust it is tword the front of the car.  Is this the correct direction?  Told you I would need an idiots guide.....

so the treaded adjuster is too short for the type of clutch you have in the car now , you either need to buy a longer adjuster or weld a piece in to lenghten it
