Need some awnsers .. Please help.
« on: January 06, 2009 - 02:39:02 PM »
Hello there happy new year. I have a few questions here. I have a 74 dodge challenger and I'm cloning a 1970 I have most of the parts, this car will be my daily driver for a few years maybe, so I'd like a decent looking car.
1. I painted the motor orange Chrysler. Should I clear coated too?
2. I'm using front coronet headlight buckets since mine are 74 fenders, will these work?
3. I had my 904 trans rebuilt 4 years ago and it sat there until two months ago and I noticed the pan is leaking, does that mean my tranny is no good  as far as gaskets and stuff ?
4. How can I drop the front end two more inches?
5. Will front n rear magnum srt8 seats work?
6.how can I get the power seats to work?
Thanks for your input.

3. I had my 904 trans rebuilt 4 years ago and it sat there until two months ago and I noticed the pan is leaking, does that mean my tranny is no good  as far as gaskets and stuff ?Sounds like you have a bad gasket somewhere.

I don't think SRT 8 seats will work. I believe they are too wide to fit in the car. I may be wrong on this, at the very least they will look way out of proportion to the rest of the interior. If you do go that route you will have to find the wiring diagram from Dodge and then wire it accordingly in your car. Also you will have to probably reinforce the floor under the mounting locations.

For the engine I didn't clear coat mine and the paint on it is 6 years old and looks good still. But I cleaned the engine like nobodys business and primed it before I painted it.

You can probably lower it by backing out the torsion bar adjusting bolts depending on how low it is now, but becareful because you can lower it beyond the limits of the front end adjustment. Your other option is dropped spindles or expensive front suspension/k-member kits.

i have seen clear coated engines on show cars, but for the street in less the paint can withstand that type of heat,it will yellow and eventually peel off leaving an ugly mess, i thought about it too until i spoke with a few people and all of them said not to clear coat a street engine, because it just wont hold up,and will look worse in the long run :2thumbs:

I have never tried coronet headlight mounts  the spacing could be different & the depth could be wrong although the depth should be an easy fix
dropping the T bars & re-aligning the tires hsould get you close , using a lower profile tire will lower the car as well
you may need to make custom mounts for the SRT seats , also the floor pan will be different between the two so you wil have to modify the mounts , I have never tried to fit these yet so they may not physically fit I don`t know  , wiring is no issue , you will need to access the Red 3 prong Tri plug under the dash & route wiring under the carpet to run the adjusters in the seats

If the trans has been in the car and full of fluid for 4 years without being driven, I would suggest taking it out again for another rebuild (or atleast a full flush and all the bands tightened) - auto trans dont like sitting and will begin to slip.

since its gonna be your daily driver id go against this option ... simply because your gonna be driving it alot and unless your clean under the hood every other day dust is going to get on the clear coat ... and wiping dust of clear coat can scratch really badly
