8 3/4 Rear End Identification...
« on: March 09, 2009 - 08:25:46 PM »
Mopar Newbie here with a Newbie question.  (I cut my teeth on the Ford 8.8" rear end in a Fox Chassis, so leaf spring Mopar's are a whole new world to me...)

I was pretty confident that I had an 8-3/4" rear end under my Cuda until I was searching for U-bolts and found a listing for 8 1/4".  Is there such a thing as an 8-1/4"???   :clueless:  I know there's an 7-1/4", 8-3/4" and 9-3/4" (aka Dana 60??), but the 8-1/4 threw me...(maybe it's a type-o?)

Regardless, I'm attaching photos of what's under my car.  The ring and pinion need to come out the front of the rear end housing.  According the the shop manual I have, both the 7-1/4" and 9-3/4" rear ends require the ring and pinion to come out the back of the housing, 8-3/4 coming out the front.

Just making sure I get the right U-bolts...Which leads me to another question...When manufacturers describe U-bolts as being 7", 8" or 9", are they identifying which rear end they fit, or is it the length of the U-bolt?

That's an 8-3/4 you have there. Chrysler did make an 8-1/4 and 9-1/4 too. The 8-3/4 is the only one that is front loaded, all others have rear end covers.
