Painting Seat Belts

I am going to need to paint the clips on my seat belts, as the original black paint is flaking and peeling.  I am worried that when I sand them I will also sand the texture off.  How can I achieve the original look?

Why do you need to sand them?  Just clean them real well, use a stiff bristle brush, then use a good primer, then paint.  Should be fine.

If they are as rusty as the blue ones that came out of my car then doing that won't help, a good sandblasting should work and I believe the textrue is stamped into the metal.

Cool.  Looks like the texture is, in fact, in the metal.  Leads me to another question, though.  How the heck to you remove them from the pin in order to paint?
