CP - 1 Wire Alt Time
« on: March 14, 2009 - 04:39:45 PM »
Never ran one before and its my understanding to just unhook the voltage regulator and ballast resistor and be done with it! also I can unplug it at the bulkhead right and clean out all that wiring....... ??? also I am gonna run the wire right back to the battery for the kill switch for tech purposes....

thx

I ran a new 1 wire Powermaster 100 amp alternator and it's just 1 cable back to the battery.
I went to Advanced Auto Parts & had them cut me a couple of feet of battery cable and ran it that way.

I'm running dual electric fans with other electrical upgrades so I needed the juice.

The alt "knows" to start to charge by exceeding a certain RPM ( I believe 750 - 1,000 ) and therefore needs no external regulator.

I used to be a fan of one wire due to the cleaner look of less wires, but after having one on a few cars I can see where keeping the voltage sensing setup to let the alternator up the voltage when needed makes sense. Even more so when moving the battery to the trunk to help makeup for the voltage loss. It may not be necessary on your car, Stroker, but a fuel injected car has alot more electrical stuff going on with high pressure pumps, injectors, etc.
