Need some advice
« on: June 12, 2004 - 10:14:18 PM »
I just bought a '71 Barracuda convertible from my brother.  It originally was rallye red but he painted it plum crazy with a white interior and top.  I've never really liked the color and am thinking of repainting it but maybe just adding some white or black striping/detail might do the trick.  Does anydody have pictures of plum crazy cars with a little something extra?  It has a flat hood right now but I have a rallye hood or a shaker that I could put on it.

Any suggestions?

Doug

P.S. I also have a '71 Barracuda convertible rallye red with a black top that I'm restoring, it's my baby!

DUDE!!  Welcome to CC.COM!!  You are one lucky %$&#*@!!  If it was me and I had a 71 purple convert, it would have to have white billboards. Is it #'s matching??   I know that these big white things were either "love'em or hate'em" stripes but thats what I think you need!! Please post some pics of both your cars as I'm sure everyone will want to see what ya got!!  I am so jelious!!  If ya need help with posting, e-mail them to me and I'll set ya up!!

How about a luggage rack to go with white billboards, they suit a convertible.

I've had the red car since I was 16, that was a long time ago, my dad bought it off a Volkswagen dealers used lot back in 73.  It has suffered a little over the years by my hand, what was I thinking when I put the speakers in the backseat side panels.  Not to mention my 2 year old took a paint roller to it with white paint once.  It originally had a 318, I have the block, now its a .060 over 360 and a 727 slapstick.  My brother found the purple car about 15 years ago in a junk yard in Indiana bought it for $700.00 bucks and along with a coupe parts car made a nice ride.  It originally was a 318 with a 3 speed on the column, now it's a 340, 4 speed with a pistol grip.  My brother lives in Chicago and I'm having it delivered out to Phoenix in the next week, I'll take some pictures and post.

Is the billboard graphic where the rear quarter is practically all white?

Ya,the billboard covers most of the quarter and has the engine callout-340- on the rear part of the door which would definitly give it that something extra.

A 1971 plum crazy convert with a white top, gut and white billboards is a sight to behold.  I would really suggest returning it back to its original color, but that's just me.

Locke... welcome aboard... everyone else has said just about everything I was going to say... EXCEPT... where in Chicago does your brother reside?? If he's got a Mopar, and is active in a car club... I might know him... I'm in the western suburbs of Chi-town... ;) ;D

Let's see some pics!

The billboards look great!  I bought the car from him sight unseen, his wife said get rid of it and he wanted to keep it in the family.  It has sat in a garage for about 8-10 years so the dust is probably a little thick.  I'll probably keep it purple bacause I don't want to pull the engine right now to do a complete repaint.  I want to spend most of my time working on the red one!  He's sending along a shaker hood minus the shaker intake, any idea what all the needed parts cost?  I took a quick look at Year One's website and it appears to be around $1,000.00, ouch!

I'll post some pictures next week when I get the car.
