After 37 years of faithfull service....

I went to take the Cuda out for a run to the store for the first time in over 6 weeks. As I plop down in the drivers seat I notice the absence of the soothing sound of the clock ticking! I was pretty bummed out as I thought it was neat that it still worked when I bought it. Oh well. If I mess with the set needle it will work for a couple of minutes and die again. Time to call RTE to get a repair kit. I was curious if it will still make the ticking noise after I rebuild it. I remember as a kid sitting in my uncles Cuda daydreaming of the day I could drive and all I heard was the clock ticking away. I know it sounds stupid but it brings back memories. Also how big of a pain is it to remove the cluster.

If you do the quartz conversion, there will be no more ticking.  If you replace the mechanical workings it will be just like the old days.

Who would I go to for a mechanical rebuild. The first go around lasted 37 years so I'm fine with that.

i can sympathise with you there, its the smallest of details that make the biggest of differances.

All may not be lost... Seeing that it will at least run a little maintenance may save the day.
 My Granddad used to open up his pocket watch & soak it with lighter fluid, I've never tried but could see some kind of penetrating lubricant sprayed in the works just might bring the ole ticker back to life.

Mine was just gummy and now it works too good....gains some time.. WD40 took care of it but it was out of the dash as was everything else...... :bigsmile:

Fast forward to today. Beautiful day out so I get in the Cuda for a ride to dinner. When I get in the clock is set where I set it the other day (12:00) and not running. I fire her up and low and behold the clock starts to run again. Its been running for several hours now without missing a beat. Sounds like it might only need a good cleaning! :woohoo:

If you tried to set it and didn't let the reset knob go all the way back in, that will keep the clock from running.............

I messed with it several times the other day but ya never know. It was cold the other day and was warm today. I'm thinking that had something to do with it too.

Yep, checked it again today and still ticking. Maybe it was a fluke. :dunno:

I have 2 - 39 year old clocks here that still work fine but both came from cars that have low miles on them
