That is high. Did it drop any after the engine warmed up?

Sounds too high to me. With a HV design, usually they will run higher when cold, but as the oil heats, it drops to around 70-80. IMO, that's still too high. But it makes people feel better about things.

I had 50-70psi in my new sb motor with hv pump. 80-100 is pretty high in my opinion.

Another variable...Were you using heavy oil to break in the engine? Like 20W-50, or such?

umm, another variable here is the guage.
its just a number. unless its a brand spankin new digital gimmick that was calibrated.... :blah:
i would hook up an external guage to any newly built motor just for safetys sake.
better safe than sorry, and it will only cost a few bucks.

same thing on the temp. just my  :2cents:

I know you can blow the rubber seal out of the oil filter. If you have all brand new rotating parts and an hv pump, it can hit 150 psi. Mine did and blew the filter off. Had to go back and change the pump out. If you dont use full groove bearings and have tight side clearances, it is possible

my engine runs the same , with 10-40 oil & tight internal clearance very likely , no problems with my 440
 BTW I had a 440 idle at 175 once

thanks for the help. I was running 10w-30, it was 70-80 tonight when running, I still dont like it that high, my sb challener runs about 60 at the max, but as long as I don't blow a filter, it sounds good and no problems yet

I do believe it can wash the coating of the bearings

over 6000 miles I have seen no isues with my 440 running the same pressures , Milodon has an adjustable regulator to decrease the pressure if you are that concerned , I wouldn`t pin the throttle until it has heat in it but really At 7000 RPM you need 70 PSI so you are in the right range
personally I would leave it alone

Don't use a Fram filter.I don't know about Mopars but on a chevy they are known to come apart inside and give you next to no oil pressure.  I don't know how many times at the track ( I'm a tech inspector at my local oval track) I have walked up to people with long faces saying the motor is hurt cause it has no oil pressure. I look down and if it's a fram filter I get them to replace it with a WIX at the track and then 99% of the time that was the problem!!  I've had good luck with WIX
