73 Chally drivers side weather stripping base
« on: April 28, 2009 - 02:18:54 PM »
On the passenger side of my challenger, there is a piece of metal that runs from the bottom rear of the quarter window to the front of the front side window. This piece is partially trim and it provides a base for the upper window weather stripping to be glued to.

I need one for the drivers side. Any idea where I can get one?

Thanks much!

Not sure on the challengers but on my 'cuda the drip moulding (like the one on ebay) is an optional cosmetic part and the weather strip actually attaches to another strip of steel which fits further inside the door opening.

And it doesn't glue to it, it just fits.

That piece on Ebay sure looks like it. It is the piece just below the drip rail that the rubber upper window seal is glued to. I will check out the store that it on Ebay.  Thanks much everyone.

Here are a few pictures. In some of them, you can see pieces of black weather stripping glued to the piece. It attaches by sheet metal screws, that is what the holes in the piece are for. Where the weather stripping attaches, it appears to be galvinized, and the is a chrome? stainless steel? lip that runs just below the drip guard moulding. The one picturedif for the passenger side, I need one for the drivers side. I also did not see a part number stamped on it.

Ok, here are a few more pics. You can see where the rubber weather stripping fits into the piece. I still need the metal piece for the drivers side. Its really strange because this piece has a polished edge to it that sits just below the drip rail.

I think UKcuda may be on to something. In looking at the 73 Body Service Manual, there is a drawing of a part that looks like what I need on page 3-12, figure 21. It is called a 'weatherstrip retainer'. The only issue is that it is for the Polara/Monaco line. The Dart shows one as well, but there is nothing for the challenger. So asking my original question in another way, what does the window top waetherstrip attach to?
