Non-kill...Volvo wagon
« on: June 23, 2002 - 02:40:11 AM »
Driving the Barracuda to work one day and see this white Volvo wagon in my peripheral vision doing the "speed-up/slow-down" thing. He won't quite pull up to the passenger door and (thankfully) I'm too relaxed to waste my time with this jerk. He finally falls back far enough for me to give him a "what kind of idiot are you" look out the back window...that's when I saw the Highway patrol patch on his sleeve since he was trying to hide the rest of his uniform from view. He pulled up next to me, gave me a thumbs up, then tore off like he was after Al Capone or something. Have seen the car several times since with unsuspecting victims at the side of the road. Think I could have gotten out of a ticket by saying he instigated the race?...Me neither. :(

You were certainly lucky and good heads up by you!

Cops in Calgary, Alberta Canada used to do the same thing when I cruised ther 15 yrs. ago! I don't know if they still do this.

But they used to pull up beside muscle cars at red lights, usually in an unmarked white Dodge van and rev the engine! Most people would see a van in their peripheral vision but not look at the driver. Big mistake!

I was once a passenger in a car when this happened. I looked over and saw the officers patch on his shoulder!
Told my friend, and we casually drove away on green. We were quite amazed and heard other stories of this taking place afterwards!

I would call it entrapment!  :o

Ya, I remember them doing that in Calgary... I also remember them having an unmarked teal 5.0 litre Mustang they used on Deerfoot as well...

I used to see that car with red flashing lights on the dash... and some poor sap in a rice rod or Muscle car pulled over...

It worked for them for a while I think, till people got wise...

Some others to be wary of in the last few days!!!!

Gold colored, white colored, black colored, grey/silver colored GM Malibu's with wider than usual tires/wheels and some Phord's 4 dr. of course!  ;)

I don't use a radar detector, just use good judgement and eagle eye as I travel the hiways. The wider tires and something weird about the cars stance and daytime running lights are a dead give away to me! Oncoming or upcoming!
Even if the vehicle is far enough away to be uncertain what it is! Be aware of your surroundings and even you can be better than a friggin' $$$$$$ radar detector!

I haven't been stopped since 1988! Knock on wood!  ;D
Be wary of low flying air traffic too! They might be trying to get a time on you from road marker to road marker.
