mostly mechanixed, sometimes bare, welding and fabbing..always covered. but for the most part general tinkering sees me in the flesh.

I've never worn gloves. I'm not sure how that would feel working on a car.   

I can't count the number of times I've seen blood all over the place, and not even known where I cut myself.

I use nitrile gloves almost all the time.  Always when working on a trans or rear, hate that gear oil smell.

I use heavy duty mechanics nitrile gloves. They do provide an extra layer of "skin" protection. I worked on the waterfront for many years on naval vessels as a marine machinist for the US navy. I never thought twice about sticking my hands into anything and hardly ever wore gloves. I stuck my hands in solvents and fluids such as diesel fuel, JP-5 (jet fuel), hydraulic fluids, greases, cleaners, industrial chemicals, rust inhibitors ect. Now I am paying for it as I have developed contact dermatitus on my hands to the extent that I occasionally have to get Cortisone shots to clear it up. So take if from me, protect you hands, eyes, ears ect. Don't brush it off, as you may pay for it later like me!!

I think thats what I may have.
I can't touch anything dirty or oily for long periods.

I use the purple nitrile gloves.  They still allow for the feeling of touch.  And my wife doesn't mind my hands after I work on the cars. 
Moving big stuff around I do use mechanix or generic blue rubber atlas gloves. 

I use the purple ones because I do not want dermatitus.  I have heard many a story from the old timers so I protect everything.

I have been using my mechanics gloves more, and more. I still do a lot bare handed.

I have found that if one hand is wrapped around a cold beer, it keeps both hands out of trouble.
