Console automatic shifter plate question...
« on: March 17, 2009 - 03:30:25 PM »
Has anyone taken the automatic shifter plate assembly apart. I know that I can get the top off (by grinding and/or drilling) to have it rechromed but how do you get it back together? It looks like it is put together with spot welds and/or rivets.

Here is a picture of the assembly. Forgot to get a picture of the bottom, can get one if anyone needs to see what I'm talking about.

I bought one of those after-market shift plate chrome parts too. It fit just fine. I used some epoxy to put it on. The heck with spot welding.

OK, thanks for the info. I"m going to take mine apart and see if I can get it back together. Then I will decide whether to get an aftermarket or have mine refinished. I'm sure I can make it work with screws and/or epoxy.

I have the repro on mine too, it has screws to put it back together.  I guess you could drill and tap yours if you want to rechrome it.
