Rallye Gauge Difference

Hi Guys,

Can some one explain to me the difference in Rallye gauges for e body cars?  I'm looking for a set for my 71 Challenger and see that some are for a 70-71 and 72-74.  Will all years fit all cars?  Will I need a different wiring harness?  Would It be better to wait until Carlisle to get one more reasonably priced or get it from E-bay, etc?  If I replace them do I need a new light bar also?  I have a 71 convertible is there a difference in the rallye gauges?  Thanks

The 72 and up units will fit and work fine in a 70-71.  The differences are mostly cosmetic.  The biggest difference is in the location of the speedometer reset and the clock setting knob on the 70-71 the knobs exit through their own holes in the woodgrain area under the gauges.  In the 72 and up the knobs come right through the face of the speedo and clock.  The redline of the tach, the graphics and printing  of the switches  and the woodgrain itself all differ a little as well.  I assume you have noticed that the 70-71 sets are usually considerably more expensive.  The light bar for the non rallye gauges has one less bulb location in it.  It will work, but the rallye light bar lights the gauges better.

Here's a picture of the resets for a '70 - '71. Also, I believe the tach should be an 8,000 one with the redline at 6,500 RPM. BTW, this is from my '70 Barracuda.

Yes, the later year Rally gauges will work in your car. No need for a different wiring harness. The later year gauges have the red seat belt light on the far right, that you would ignore. In the end, those gauges are cheaper to come by than the 70-71 gauges. Even at Carlisle, the price is steep. It really depends on your budget. I recently sold a nice working set of 70-71 gauges and switch panel for over $900 on E-bay.

dont forget about the seat belt light at the side of the ralley cluster 73-74

The '72-74 tach goes to 7,000 RPM.

Some early '72s came with the '70-'71 style.  Mine was made 8/17/71 and came with the '70-'71 style from the factory.
