Well let's see what headers and a good exhaust will do for a over 4,000lb car with a little 5.7 motor with no other changes.

Again, there is no reason to spend hundreds for something you don't really need. We can all post articles or personal stories, but that's still us. This is about what you said you wanted. I'll also add, any custom dual on a 318 is an improvement and can be cut back and changed for little cash to fit any headers... should  you decide to change the cam and add them later. If the bug bite you to go faster, then you can spend it.

Headers are great for the right reasons. At this point, with this motor, I think it's a no go....
The MAIN reason for the 4 barrel is to get good response from the motor. I did not hope for a bunch extra power with the 4 barrel, but I might pick up a couple of ponies.
The dual exhaust ( with FLOWMASTERS ) will sound nice and get me one or two ponies.....
Overall, it will have the throttle response it should (without hesitation and blubbering) and we get a little rumble....

The point was the 5.7 Hemi is blessed with vastly superior heads and exhaust ports compared to any 1st gen SBM, and I'd bet it has a much better stock exhaust system of larger diameter than a HP '70 340 car. Even so it knocks off a 1/2 second and gains a bunch of MPH with just headers and cat-back exhaust. That's like 5 car lengths in a race. When you get beat by a Honda by 4 car lengths you might regret what you spent your $$$ on.

And YES, you will get "Challenged" often. With that nameplate on your car get used to it.  :grinyes:

I second, third, etc...... leaving the stock exhaust manifolds on.  Yes with the 4 barrel and yes with the dual exhaust.  At the end of the day-------- it's a 318 and you have a very nice cruze machine.

I wouldn't even bother putting duals behind stock manifolds. Just put a Cherrybomb muffler on it and save your money. It'll sound cool and go just as fast.  :2thumbs:
