Tremic 5 speed tunnel conversion
« on: April 02, 2009 - 09:16:44 PM »
Anyone have pics of templates, and/or specs on what exactly they modify to have the Kiesler Tremic fit?

I may or may not go that direction. But if it's modified before paint, then it won't require any cutting or re work later if I do decide to change over.
Doing it later would damage paint work.

I have pics somewhere, I'll dig em up this weekend.  Send me an email to mw@REMOVETHISblueglow.net to remind me.  It was pretty painless actually.  They send you a template to lay down and trace out.  You just cut it out with a torch then tack weld the new hump in place.  We then sealed it up good and put undercoating on the underside.  Was one of the easier parts of the conversion.

Dave that would be great if you could send me some. My e-mail is in my profile.

My main question is: what differences if any comparing the OEM 4 speed tunnel patch vs. the Tremic modified piece/section.

Thanks
Mike, Fremont, CA.

If you do go with the 5 spd trmec conversion I would deal with Classic over Keisler , far better to deal with
I have done 2 swaps with the keilser & have hd problems with both

Classic is closer to me. So yes that would make sense. i could drive there and pick it up. 6 hour drive to there.

As far as the Tremic goes; I spoke to Richard at Kiesler who is CS and Tech support.

Richard said he has no pattern yet established why the 4 speed hump needs to widened on some yet on other E bodies, they go right in using the OEM tunnel or repro available out on the market. His thinking is mis-alignment of the sheetmetal layout under the car. Richard also said that the majority of e bodies won't need the widening done to the area near the shifter.
Then he also said you can put a deposit on a mock trans prior for a $275 deposit thats refundable when you return it. Kind of like those plastic Hemi blocks you see on E Bay. This way you can check fit up front. He didn't recommended me to guesstimate where to widen it.
