challenger bumper question

Just to clarify ..... is this the 3" piece that sits below the tail lights and is attached to the rear of the car and fits under the top edge of the bumper??  I presume that this is to stop road grime/water from coming up between the bumper and rear tail lights.

IF SO ..... I am interested to know how this should be mounted.  I just bought one for my 70 Challenger and am unsure of the installation .... weld .... bolt?

Anyone been through this already?      My suspicion is that it should be body color.

on a 70 it wasn`t 3 " wide as I recall , I would paint it body color unless you are doing the rear balckout like the T/A has, then it would be flat black

You are correct.   It is not 3", but closer to 2".   

No one has chimed in on the installation.  I checked the service manual and there are no close up drawings.   I will check the 1970 Dealer reference books.   If anyone knows how these were installed from the factory and where, I would greatly appreciate the advise.    Cheers ....

I have a '72 340 ralley that was very original till i started restoring it. The strip you are inquiring about installs with small phillip head screws. I think there are something like 10 or so. The go in from underneath .Black is the color of my strip.

I'm changing the bumpers on my 73 to the earlier style, and need pics on the filler panel installed. Surely someone out there has pics. I think I know where it goes, but I wanna be sure before I start drilling holes.

I pulled the strip you are talking about off a 70 tailpanel I bought and cut off the car. It was put on with phillips head metal screws like mentioned before. It did not come off willingly which leads me to believe there might have been seam sealer or something underneath it. That or it just had a thick coating of paint. It was body color btw.
