Rebuilt 8 3/4 Question
« on: April 11, 2009 - 10:08:32 AM »
I bought a rebuilt posi drop out from a shop a while back, it has new bearings , ring and pinion the works. my question is it turns a little tight ( by hand ) , you can easily spin it but there is much more resistance than a used rear end, is this normal?  the builder says after break in it will be fine, does that sound right?

It is suprising how tight 20-30 in/lb's for the pinion bearing preload feels plus the same for the diff bearings.  Its probably OK.

A fresh rebuild is going to be a little harder to turn. Just remember to run it on jack stands to break it in.
