I aquired a 383 long block with 11-12:1 compression pistons (according to the guy i got it from they are domed just don't know what the com. ratio is for sure)  anyways the guy wanted to keep rockers and cam. i have a hyd. cam  its a crane cam have had it awhile and here are the specs.

I'll be getting the heads (i think they are a stock cast heads) that he used so the springs are rated for about a .550 lift cam (there again thats just what he said don't really know the lift on the old cam but he's been building motors and racing for along time and is a friend of my cousins.)  I'm wondering do i need special lenght pushrods or will stock ones work and can i run stock rockers.  i got this motor on trade and was wanting to finish it with out putting alot of money into it.  also what size carb do i need i can't remember the formula to figure it out.  I know i'm leaving alot of unknowns but hoping someone might know.  Thanks

I also have been looking for lifters and noticed on jegs for crane lifters they list for bb and sb chryslers are they the same?? i was thinking about running rhodes lifters in the motor to try it but they don't list for bb just sb.

Everybody knows Crane filed for bankruptcy--right?

So forget about any warranty from Crane.

I got this cam probably over 5 years ago with intentions on building a 440 but didn't have the funds..and still really don't...to many projects not enough money for all of them.

Yes you can put it together with what yuou have the Springs will be in the right range , the stock pushrods will work & should take the load , if they bend you know they are not up to the task & need to be replaced , same with the stock rockers , they will take it for a while  & they are cheap to replace if they fail although I am sure MP would recommend HD Hyd rockers or better yet adjustable rockers

Good package but it may feel soft because of the lack of true compression and that cam. I love that cam and have used about 5 of them in various builds. It can run a single spring ad the factory arms, but they will flex with it and the rpm will be limited. I use iron adjustables with them. You should have no issue breaking it in,the lobe is not a fast rate, it just works very, very well for mid range and top end while still making a little vacuum. Those domed pistons, in a block that was not decked heavy, will only make about 9.8:1 with typical open chamber heads.

what size of a carb should i be lookign at?  and i was looking for lifters and on jegs don't remember which brand listed sm and bb lifters as the same...is this true or is there a difference?  thought about getting rhodes lifters but can only find them listed for small block.

I would be looking at either the Proform 750 or the Holley HP street 750 , lifters should be the same for either small or big block
