Turn Signal Lever

I'm finally converting my '70 dash to Rallye (after several months of collecting parts and the courage to take this project on).... while I have the steering wheel off I realized that my turn signal lever is "loose."    When I look down inside the crush can, there is a single nut (probably 5/8 inch) that seems to be holding the can onto the column.    If I take this off, will the crush can come off so I can (hopefully) tighten up the turn signal lever).     

Progress on the guage swap is slow - crawling under dashes is a young man's sport.    Got to pause, as I forgot to acquire a tach kit and just ordered one from RTE today (they are VERY helpful!).   So far -- so good..... but not probably a job I'd want to do again real soon.  (thanks to all here who gave me advice -- I'll keep you posted).

You will need a small steering wheel puller to remove the can unless it has been pulled before & not too tight.

You don't have a prayer of getting that crush can off unless it's been pulled off before.

Heck, even if its been pulled a FEW times, it is tough to get off without a puller (ask me how I know...LOL)

And not any puller will do....you need one with extra long bolts and center shaft.......I got a set from harbor freight and had to get my own longer bolts...and at some point I also have to shim under the center shaft to reach all the way down in there....but it works.

Its not hard once you figure out the combination of puller you need.

Nuts.     I assume there is no other way to get at the set screw to tighten up the wiggle in my turn signal lever.....??

The can must come off..........then its only one little screw to tighten........

I need to pull mine also to replace the turn signal switch.  Does the puller have to fit inside the can, or does it rest on the top?  Any pics to show what you did?

you either need a small puller to fit inside the can or you need long bolts , I built a longer center bolt for my puller & bought some 7 " long 3/8 bolts to pull the cans off
