Power Steering Gearbox swap
« on: May 05, 2009 - 09:24:03 AM »
I've got a hairline crack in my power steering gearbox (1970 Barracuda) and I thought I'd replace it with one from a 1990 B250 Van (in my yard).  The problem(s) are - different output spline shaft diameter and a drop in the overal movement of this shaft.  Mine has an overall turning radius of about 90 degrees.  The one from the van seems to only turn about 30 degrees.  Then I thought I'd swap out the guts so as to use the 'core' or case but taking it apart is proving to be a real challenge.  Can I purchase a rebuilt unit (where) and just eat the core charge? :dunno:
1970 Barracuda (318)
1973 Duster (360)
1984 F-250 4X4 (7.1l)
1984 MB 200
1988 Mazda 626
1993 Camry
2002 SEAT Alhambra (diesel)
2009 R/T Classic (on order)
