The drop base aftermarket air filters I have tried were made for Holleys and hit the top of the TQ.

I'm pretty sure we have at least one member here that runs this combo. The guy that had the stocker race cars(?)
Once we had Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope & Johnny Cash. Now we have Obama, No Hope and No Cash!

Hood, I would stay with the T-Q, great carb.
On my '73 I'm using a Weiand #8007 dual plane intake which is about an 1" taller than a stock manifold.
Also I use a 3/4" carb spacer under the carb with a 1 1/2" drop air cleaner base. Filter is a 13 3/4" x 3" (Purolator #A60074 for size) and a Mopar black cast air cleaner lid.
You may need two or three ring gaskets so the drop base don't hit the top .
As far as hood clearance goes, you should have about 1/2" or so, I would clay the top too check that..
Let me know if you need anything.....
